Nurturing Spirit Doula, About Me - Meet Rachel

I am Nurturing Spirit Doula.

As your birth doula, I will provide you with physical, emotional, and educational support during your pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediate postpartum. It is my goal to connect you with evidence-based resources to help you advocate for yourself, feel empowered, and have the pregnancy and birth experience you desire.

I grew up a competitive dancer and performed in musical theater productions that allowed me to develop an understanding of how the body can perform under pressure. I soon came to recognize the importance of combining a strong work ethic with optimal nutrition and the mental clarity that was necessary to achieve my performance goals.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease at the age of 23. This diagnosis fueled my interest in gut health and encouraged me to reduce my toxic load overall leading me to be an advocate for holistic health.

My background in sociology has provided me with the tools necessary to conduct and filter through empirical research to gain a strong understanding of living a healthy life and I am, therefore, able to encourage others through this process if they wish to.

As a massage therapist since 2009, I have worked across the country gaining a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge of the human body. My initial bodywork training began in neuromuscular therapy, which pairs well with chiropractic care. Later, after becoming a mother myself, I realized firsthand the benefits of massage during both pregnancy and postpartum and enhanced my resume with certifications in prenatal and infant massage, as well as aromatherapy.

I personally struggled with postpartum anxiety after my first pregnancy. We were living out of state, and it was a challenge to navigate life with a new little one. We had very little community and I felt anything but empowered. Thankfully, I entered an intense healing journey where I developed numerous holistic coping skills and I was able to grow emotionally and spiritually. This sparked my interest in developing a skill set to better support this population of clientele and I have since furthered my education to best serve all stages of motherhood, both through a bodywork perspective and as a doula.

I support, encourage, and empower women, and I provide a calm, nonjudgmental, and gentle presence. I help facilitate and offer alternatives. We will get to know one another during your pregnancy. I will join you during your labor phase and help facilitate relaxation techniques that work best for you whether it be music, massage, counter pressure, aromatherapy, breathing exercises, mirroring sounds, guided imagery, changing positions, utilizing the birthing ball or peanut, helping your partner, or just as a shoulder to lean on. Whatever support looks like to you and your partner I will come equipped to be there for you and your specific needs!
